Yesterday I got the sad notice that Paolo Vollmeier passed away in silence on November 30. He was a member of the AIEP since 1979, for almost 40 years, and one of the leading experts of the world for pre-adhesive postal history. Paolo has achieved to many merits and awards for the philately to enrol here. The AIEP awarded him the Hunziker-Medal in 2004. I personally was honoured to be a friend of Paolo since more than 25 years, and I followed him as a Hon. Treasurer of the AIEP many years ago. We all learned a lot from Paolo, he was a real gentlemen, a man of research and a collector, a writer and a publisher, a leading figure of worldwide philately. We will miss him very much.

Goodbye, Paolo!

Dr. Thomas Mathà
President of the AIEP
